Mabee Library

"The University Library is the intellectual and cultural heart of any university.  At Washburn University, the Mabee Library is a constant hub of activity that sees students and faculty connect to the resources and assistance they need to succeed. Without our Friends, the Libraries cannot meet the expanding needs of the Washburn community of learning. Your support of the Washburn Libraries is the difference maker because it promotes student success and permits what is the hallmark of a great university, the creation of new knowledge."
                        - Dr. Alan Bearman, Dean of Libraries

Next to its faculty, Washburn University’s most important resource is its library because a great university must have a great library at its heart. Indeed, it is often said that without great libraries-the repository of knowledge, scholarship and wisdom-there are no great universities.

For generations, a university library was primarily a collection of print materials. Now and into the future, the Washburn Libraries make not only books available to their many users, but alongside them provide access to an ever increasing array of technological resources. Both inside the buildings and online, the Washburn Libraries offer an extensive and growing number of innovative educational opportunities that support and extend Washburn’s teaching, learning, research and outreach activities.

Staying current with the needs of students in the 21st century, Mabee Library offers a number of tools and resources that are available to students in order to further their learning and research. Some of these resources include:

  • Photocopiers located on the main floor and the first floor available for student use.
  • An HP scanner which can copy, scan, scan film, or scan-to-PDF.
  • An electronic classroom with 30 laptops located on the library's main level.
  • Washburn students, staff, and faculty can login and access their Washburn email accounts, check email, and word processing applications. This classroom is also used for library instruction.
  • Televisions, DVD players and VCRs are located on the main floor. A regional DVD for international DVDs is also available.
  • The Curriculum Resources Center (CRC) has equipment that students may use to produce materials for classroom use such as a roller laminator, a die-cut machine, and a spiral binder.

Donations of any size can make a difference for Mabee Library. Even small amounts given over time can accumulate to create substantial resources for the school.
